A river runs through.....

The inspiration of the River Thames

I have a fascination with water. The sound of crashing sea waves, or the gentle lullaby of the river lapping its banks. The RIver Thames runs through my home town of Henley, a small town whose history is built on its banks. It has been the backdrop to a large part of my life, this river. From walks along its banks, festival days where the lights twinkle on boats as music spills out all around, to the world renowned regatta. Teenage memories of walking and talking there with friends whose names are written on my heart; some now no longer with us but whose laughter can still be heard in old riverside haunts and memories.

The quiet early mornings as the sun rises and the mist gently rises from the water are my favourite, the sound of birds in uplifting flight and the glorious reflections that dance there on the water. It cannot help but be an inspiration to my painting, this flow. I am embarking on a new series of work to celebrate all the river brings.

The first completed painting above, capturing the tranquility felt on one of those still and luminous mornings has found its home with some lovely London collectors, the river running through my town to theirs....
